BTEC First in Construction
This course is ideal for you if you want to work in careers such as town planning, architectural design, surveying, carpentry and joinery, brickwork or site technician. The course covers both practical and theory to help you develop construction skills in bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing as well as more technical skills such as health and safety and construction science.
4 GCSEs at grade D or above or other Level 1 qualification preferably at merit including a grade D in maths. You will also need to attend an interview to make sure the course is right for you.
Subjects covered include:
• Introduction to the construction industry
• Carpentry and joinery
• Trowel occupations (covering bricklaying and plastering)
• Building services (covering plumbing and electrical installations)
You can go on to the BTEC National in Construction or go into employment in the construction industry. Because this course develops the skills that employers are looking for, you can choose from a whole range of craft or technician careers or you could continue your studies with an Apprenticeship or NVQ.
