Summary: 

This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in science and wish to pursue a medically related career such as biomedical science, biochemistry, radiography, pharmacy or nursing etc.

Entry requirements: 

4 GCSEs at grade C or above or other Level 2 qualification preferably at merit including GCSE science at A*-C, and at least a D in maths and English.

Full Description: 

The course will prepare you for entering work as well as going to university as you will develop your individual learning skills as well as practical techniques which are valued by employers and universities.

Some of the core units include:
• Scientific principles
• Scientific practical techniques
• Scientific investigations
• Human physiology
• Genetics
• Microbiology and genetic engineering

Some of the specialist units will include:
• Biochemical or biomedical techniques
• Microbiological techniques
• Practical chemical analysis
• Medical physics
• Industrial applications of organic chemistry

After the course: 

BTEC Nationals are valued by both employers and universities. You could progress on to degree courses in: pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, microbiology and numerous other options such as biomedical science, biochemistry, clinical science, life science or pathology. Alternatively, you could work as a laboratory technician in a science/food industry, school, college or hospital. Other careers could include working for the Environment Agency, Natural England or Forensic Science Service.
