Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Risk Assessors Course
This one day course will enable the delegate to appreciate the requirements of the DSE Regulations and understand the potential problems caused by DSE work; how they are caused and what can be done to rectify them.
This course concentrates on the practical elements of being a DSE assessor using case studies and ‘mock up’ workstations for practical sessions to develop the assessor’s skills and confidence in carrying out assessments.

The course can be amended to incorporate details of the organisations existing systems and procedures for completing DSE assessments – at no extra cost

In – house staff selected to carry out DSE/Workstation Risk Assessments on fellow employees.
Course Aims and Objectives
After successfully completing the course the delegate will be able to:
- Perform DSE assessments in accordance with legislation and in-house procedures
- Check that the computer equipment is suitable for the DSE user and that the workstation is set up appropriately
- Understand how musculoskeletal injuries occur and how they can be prevented for all types of DSE users
- Be able to provide advice to the DSE user so that he or she can avoid the risk of physical, visual and stress discomfort
Course Content
The course is split into two main parts; the morning consists of classroom work covering the following areas:
- Definitions and introduction
- Outline of what the law requires - Health and safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations
- Common health risks
- Equipment adjustment and use
- The working environment
- Software, task management, breaks.
- How to complete the forms (Based on the HSE L26 or in house documents).
- Practical role playing session on checking a workstation and carrying out a DSE Assessment with another team member.
- Case studies covering examples of different types of common problems and medical conditions
- Useful stretches and exercises - presentation, demonstration.
- Multiple choice assessment
- Q&A session.
The afternoon session will be based on practical exercises and case studies
Course Assessment
Throughout the course delegates will be assessed to ensure that they understand and can apply the key principles. At the end of the course delegates will be required to complete a short multiple choice assessment paper. On successful completion of the course delegates will receive a training certificate.
